Steel giant Tata Steel Netherlands has announced plans to recycle 120 million kilograms of old food and beverage cans by 2026, a target that is four times the 30 million kilograms recycled in 2024.
To achieve this goal, Tata Steel has signed supply agreements with ten scrap steel companies in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom. This move aims to achieve a 30% scrap steel usage rate by 2030, in order to produce cleaner, greener circular steel. Since tinplate is magnetic and easy to separate from waste, the recycling rate of packaging steel in the Netherlands has reached nearly 95%, earning it the title of “recycling champion.” This also once again confirms the environmental value of tinplate as one of the most sustainable packaging materials.
